Getting there: Damar is currently (2021) served by: KM Sabuk Nusantara 34 (running between Kupang and Saumlaki), KM Sabuk Nusantara 71 (running between Ambon and Saumlaki), KM Sabuk Nusantara 87 (running between Ambon and Kupang), A weekly fast boat (known as the “99”) runs between Ambon and Moa stopping at Damar, but only if there are enough passengers.. There’s also a daily flight from Ambon to Tiakur on Moa Island, where you can catch one of the above to Damar. Pelni info (162) can supply schedule information, but only for the latest sailing. Accommodation: There are no hotels or guesthouses on Damar, so it is informal lodging only. Your arrival will be a major event, and you are likely to receive multiple invitations from locals to stay with them. Bring a tent just in case you don’t. Ilih village has only sporadic electricity. Bring a powerful power bank with you. Permits: Make sure to take a local guide with you. Water sources: Not available on the volcano. Take plenty.
